Step-by-step explanation:

A train starts from Delhi at 8 in the morning, after 6 hours some fault occurs in the train due to which it proceeds at 2/3 of its speed and is late by 40 minutes, if this train had broken 200 km ahead. If this  was 30 minutes late then what is the distance between Delhi to Agra

  • So a train starts from Delhi at 8 A.M in the morning. So the distance is from D to A. While travelling after 6 hours there is a breakdown and so travels 2/3 of the normal speed and hence 40 min late.
  • So speed is inversely proportional to time
  •                So S α 1/T
  • So Ratio of speed will be Normal and not normal
  •                                     So      3                 2
  •                                               2                  3
  • So speed for 1 unit is 40 min
  • So speed for 2 units will be 80 min
  • Again for further distance of breakdown it will be 30 min late
  • So speed for 1 unit value is 30 min
  • So speed for 2 unit value is 60 min.
  • Therefore 200 km will be covered in 20 min.
  • So we have
  •                  Speed = distance / time
  •                                     = 200 / 20 x 60
  •                                     = 600 km/hr
  • So the distance for first 6 hours will be
  •                                Distance = 6 x 600
  •                                                = 3600 km
  • Therefore total distance from Delhi to Agra will be 3600 + 200 + 600 = 4400 km
