Given A man travels 480 km in 4 hours, partly by air and partly by train. If he had travelled all the way by air, he would have saved 4/5 of the time he would have taken to travel by train and would have arrived at his destination 2 hours early. Find the distance he covered by travelling by train.

• So 4/5 of total time in train will be 2 hours.
• So total time in train will be 2 / 4/5
•                                        = 2 x 5 / 4
•                                         = 5/2 hours.
• According to question
•      Time taken by a person to cover 480 kms is 4 hours.
• So time taken in travelling by air will be 4 – 5/2
•                                                              = 8 – 5 / 2
•                                                               = 3/2 hours.
• Time taken is 2 hours to travel a distance of 480 kms
• therefore in 3/2 hours distance travelled will be 480 x 3/2 / 2
•                                                                         480 x 3 / 2 x 2
•                                                                           = 360 kms
• So distance covered by train will be 480 – 360 = 120 kms
