Ekart transport flipkart order one place to another by which transport (railways airways or trucks etc)
Answers
Rail transport is never used at eKart, only Air & Surface mode of transport are used. Currently eKart offers 3 tiers of service to its customers.
Express Delivery - Also called as NDD, Next Day Delivery.
Economy Tier - Where shipments are transported through surface transport.
Regular Tier - Which ever is the best mode of transport considering cost & supply chain capacity utilization.
Now coming to the point of how it is decided which mode of transport to be used.
Every shipment has got shipment attributes attached to it. Which contains all the information with regards to that order, such as: customer name, customer address, shipment type, shipment dimension, origin pin code, destination pin code etc etc. Quality of Service (QOS) is one of the shipment attribute, which tells us what kind of shipment it is either express or economy or regular. Post QOS validation, end destination pin code is looked up to identify to which cluster this shipment belongs.
There are 3 transport clusters:
Local - Where the end destination pin code is within the local city. Example, if a shipment is originating from Bangalore, where my warehouse is located & the destination is also within the Bangalore. For all local shipments mode of transport is through surface.
Zonal - There are four zones: North, South, East & West. When origin and destination pin codes are from different cities (like Bangalore & Chennai). This kind of shipments are called out as Zonal Shipments, because Bangalore & Chennai fall under same zone, that is South Zone. 99% of the zonal shipments are connected through surface transport, only in high volume exception cases, air and surface both mode of transport is available
National - Where the origin and destination pin codes are mapped in different zones. Example: Shipment originating pin code from Bangalore & destination is in Gurgaon. These kind of shipments are called as National Shipments. All national shipments are connected through either Air or Surface.
From each transport center, transport connections are created, such as Air Connection to Delhi, Surface Connection to Mumbai.
Example
Shipment is originating from Mumbai & the destination pin-code is in Chennai. System will identify this shipment as a “National Shipment”, because Mumbai & Chennai are located in different zone. Later it will lookup for the “Quality of Service” attribute, if is Express Delivery or NDD, then will be transported through Air, else through Surface transport.
