Conjugation in Paramoecium is a method of sexual reproduction which is less occurrence. Paramoecium participates in conjugation only when it looses its vigour and vitality due to repeated binary fissions.

its main objective is to obtain its lost vigour and vitality, due to repeated asexual binary fissions, by exchanging the genetic material with an other senile Paramoecium

Two senile paramoecia of different strains will approach together and form a cytoplasmic bridge between them by dissolving plasma membrane at their contact. All the cell organelles disappear and the genetic material is exchanged between the two paramoecia in conjugation through the cytoplasmic bridge. Once the transfer genetic material is complete, due to the reorganized genetic material, it regains its lost vigour and vitality. it is a genetic recombination. then they separate and form new cell organelles in their cells
