2. Holding Together Federations.

Coming Together Federations:

These federations include independant states joining and forming a bigger unit, so that they can increase their sense of security by pooling sovereignity and retaining their identity.

All the units under this kind of federation have equal share of power.

Example: USA, Australia.

Holding Together Federations:

These federations include larger states dividing their share of power to several independant units. In here, it is normally divided between the centre and state. The central government however tends to be more powerful.

All the units under this kind of federation have unequal share of power.

Example: India, Spain.
