1) For conducting free and fair elections Indian Election law has been formulated according to which,no candidate can bribe or threaten the voters in elections, cannot appeal to them in the name of caste or religion, should not spend more than the amount fixed by the EC in elections etc
2) At the same time,candidates have to make a legal declaration by giving full details of criminal cases pending against them, if any, details of assets and liabilitiesof the candidate and his or her family, educational qualifications of the candidateetc, must be furnished to the EC
