Elections are very important in a democracy. The people have the power to elect their leader. Elections is a way of expressing the political views of the common man. Democracy is actually choosing the best person to govern the state by the votes of the people of the nation. It rules out the rule of one family, one person or one institution which is very important for the development of the people.

People always say that democracy is the rule of the majority but I disagree to this statement because then the majority will get a chance to over power and rule every system of the government at the same time the minority will be neglected from the development of the state which is not a positive sign of development and even if there is development this way then it will not be a complete development.

Democracy is the best form of government but it should be understood in its true spirit all the people should understand what democracy is.

Importance of Election:-

Democracy is based on the say, and the rights of the people. If a country follows a democracy; it is essentially ruled by the people. During elections the people are essentially voting for the laws that they like, and they believe would most benefit both them, and their country. Democratic elections are not about the leader's, but rather about the people voting for the politicians. If there were to be no democracy, there would be an extent of anarchy within the country. This would occur because the country would turn into another type of government where decisions are made by one person or a group of people based on their own motivating factors.

That is why a democratic election is important. Without democratic elections the government would oppress their citizens by making decisions based on their own government.

Democracy comes from the Greek “Demos” meaning “people” and “kratia” meaning “form of governance.” Thus democracy is a form of governance where the people make the decisions as opposed to having the decisions being made by a small group of elites or a single person.

Elections are necessary because they are the best and most efficient way to organize the demands of the people such that those demands are able to be translated into major policy decisions. Elections must also be free and fair to ensure that those demands are not manipulated and can be fairly and transparently translated into policy.

Why are elections important in a democracy?

The most succinct definition of democracy is by Abraham Lincoln. “ Government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth.” This line from the Gettysburg Address of Mr. Abraham Lincoln during its Civil strife, embodies the essence of democracy.

Democracy is a form of government, of the people, by the people and for the good of the people.

A government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections.

Democracy is government of the people through their representatives chosen by them in free and fair elections. Elections are needed for the people to choose their representatives. People speak through their chosen representatives and so we need elections free and fair.
