An electric fuse is a safety device used in electric appliances. The electrical fuses are basically thin wires that are made to only allow a limited amount of current to pass through it.

When a higher electric current above the fuse's limit passes through it, it leads to heating up ( electric current has a heating effect). The fuse then, due to heating, melts leading to breakage in the circuit stopping flow of current.

The melting of the fuse is because the fuse are made of low melting materials such as zinc, lead and tin.
