There are 3 kinds of wire live wire, neutral wire and earth wire. These wires are coming from a power station or substation with potential diff. Of 220v.there is a fuse conncected in circuit which is nothing but a high resistance device with low melting point device which melts down to break the circuit when huge amounts of current flows through it due to the interconnection of the live wire and neutral wire... And prevents short circuut. The earth wire connects the circuit to the earth that is flows some of the current to the earth and earth does not offer any resistance and it prevents us from getting a shock
