This is what we think when we hear the word electricity. "Electricity" reminds us of anything we plug into an electrical outlet to make it work, such as lights, refrigerators, video games, microwaves, and computers.

Scientists discovered ways to produce large amounts of electrical energy to create heat, light, and motion. These discoveries have greatly improved our lives and it will be difficult for many of us to know what life would be like without electricity. Energy in the future will also be a major problem in the future. So if children learn to use less electricity and use it wisely today, they will help themselves in future.

Energy in the form of electricity is used to operate the devices for the safety, efficiency and comfort of its residents and users. Such devices include emergency systems, air conditioning, lighting, transportation, office systems and other equipment.

The type of energy we use to make heat, light, and power to work the machine. Usually generated in power stations and batteries. Electricity is a form of energy produced by the movement of electrons. Electric is electric power or an electric current. This form of energy can be sent through wires to the flow of small particles. It is used to light and heat and to drive a motor.

• The discovery of electricity is one of the greatest accomplishment  of mankind. Thanks to “Thomas Alva Edison” who invented electricity to brighten the entire world. Now a days we cannot even imagine life without electricity. But how many of us realise that all of us waste about 10 per cent of all the energy used. This means, put together we all waste so much electricity. It is important that we save electricity and for this there are several ways that we can adopt.
• We can use CFLs (compact fluorescent lamps) in place of traditional incandescent bulbs, CFL utilise around 75 per cent less energy than these traditional incandescent bulbs. They also last upto 10 times longer, thereby saving on production as well as disposal costs. In addition CFLS produce less heat, saving on cooling costs.
• Another way is  the practice of turning off lights when not in use which has been an energy-saving measure for long. This can save electricity and also  can also help reduce electricity bill. We must also keep the electrical appliances switched off when not being used and also unplug these appliances. This is because standby power can account for 10 per cent of an average household's yearly electricity use.
• Using star rating appliances helps to save electricity. The more stars on the Energy Rating Label, the more energy efficient the appliances are. Efficient appliances use less electricity to attain the same level of performance of similar models with the same capacity or size.
• Air conditioners which are mostly uses appliances consume a lot of energy. Hence, it is important that we save on energy turning the air conditioner down during  sleep hours or utilise the “sleep mode” that lowers the output, thereby saving electricity consumption.
• Since,  it is our responsibility to conserve and save electricity, it is essential that we all take a conscious decision to save electricity to  protect our environment from far-reaching changes and to save resources from depleting  for our future generations
