Electrolysis of NaCl

Explanation:

During electrolysis of sodium chloride solution following reaction takes place;

    2NaCl(Aq) + 2H_{2}OCl_{2} + H_{2} + 2NaOH         -------(overall reaction)

At Anode - chloride ion is oxidized to chlorine

 Cl^{-} →  \frac{1}{2}Cl_{2}  + e^{-}

At Cathode - water is reduced to hydroxide and hydrogen gas

H_{2}O + 2e^{-}H_{2} + 2OH^{-}

Hence, the correct option is (B)
