Hydrogen and oxygen are collected in cathode and anode
when one molecule of water i.e H20 is dissociate it forms two molecule of hydrogen H2 and one molecule of oxygen 02.hence volume of one electode is double than other.

water itself never dissociate,so to make it electrolyte  dil.H2so4 is added

The gas collected over cathode is hydrogen and gas collected over anode is oxygen. The volume of gas collected over cathode i. e, hydrogen gas is double the volume of gas collected over anode that is oxygen gas. This is because there are two molecule of hydrogen and one molecule of oxygen in the balanced equation. Hence hydrogen collected has twice the volume of oxygen collected
