electron gain enthalpy of inert gases is zero because their outer most shell is completely filled. The electron gain enthalpy means the easy with which an electron can be added to the atom. But if the shell is completely filled can you add an electron easily, no right . that is why it is zero or can be positive too .

The electron gain enthalpy of noble gases is always positive because it will require a large amount of energy to add a electron as it has completely filled orbitals
