Correct Question:

Electronic configuration of a few elements are given (symbols are not real). Analyse them

and answer the following:

P- 2,8,7

0-2,8,8

R-2,8, 1

  • The period in which these elements belong-
  • Biggest element-
  • Element having the highest ionization energy-
  • Element having the highest electro negativity-
  • Stable element-

Solution:

  • First of all, we will write the electronic configuration of all the elements:

P : 1s² 2s² 2p⁶ 3s² 3p⁵

Q : 1s² 2s² 2p⁶ 3s² 3p⁶

R : 1s² 2s² 2p⁶ 3s¹

Now, let's fill in the blanks:

  • Since all the elements have the highest Principal Quantum Number as 3, the belong to PERIOD 3.

  • Along a period, atomic radii decreases on going right. So biggest element is R (since it will be present in the left most part).

  • Element having highest ionisation energy will be Q, because it is already stable in its octet state.

  • Element P has highest electronegativity, because it will accept 1 electron to get octet.

  • Q is the stable element, it already has octet.
