Electronic Configuration of Calcium is K L M N 2, 8, 8, 2 But we know that M shell can accomodate 18 electrons....So why can't we write 10 in M shell, M is not the last shell ?

Answer:

We should not write M = 10 electrons

Though it can accommodate 18 electrons it is scientifically proved that

• maximum electron in each and every shell should be 8

• minimum electrons is 2

This is because if we add more electrons to a shell, the electrons bombarded with each other within same shell which inturn make atom unstable.

So for any shell max electron is 8
