Answer:

BeCl2 is a monomer and it forms a chain like polymer. Be still has 2 empty orbitals after it has formed covalent bonds with chlorine atoms. it can form 2 co-ordinate bonds, it does so with two chlorine atoms of two neighboring BeCl2 molecules.

So Be forms single bond with each Cl. Hyberdisation on an atom is the num of sigma bonds the atom have + the number of lone pair electrons in the atom.(because these bond pairs sigma bonds and lone pairs are present in hyberdised orbitals.) So as per the structure of BeCl2 hybridisation is 2 which is sp.

According to the VSEPR theory, two electron pairs belonging to a divalent central atom will be most widely separated when the bond angle is 180°. In other words, the molecule will have a linear structure. In fact, beryllium chloride BeCl2, with a divalent central atom, is a linear molecule.

Answer: four

Explanation:

BeCl2, with only four valence electrons, needs four more electrons to satisfy the octet rule. NH3 has a lone pair electrons on the N atom. Therefore, BeCl2 will react with two NH3 molecules in order to achieve the octet rule, making BeCl2(NH3)2 the likely product in excess ammonia.
