Hii There!!!

A strongly electropositive element has low ionization and due to that it will tend to loose electrons.
So, it will form a cation i.e , x

A strongly electronegative element has high ionization and due to that it will tend to gain electrons.
So, it will form an anion i.e, y

Hence , the compound formed will be ionic in nature.

=> x^+ y^-
