"Elementary reaction with molecularity greater than 3 generally do not occur."

  • Collisions generally requires high amount of energy because of inter nuclear and inter electronic repulsions. For a collision two molecules are must. If the molecularity of an elementary step is 3, then three molecule must collide requiring very high energy. For a 4-body collision, energy required will still higher and therefore, unknown. If is far easier to have two body collisions and that will take place. Therefore, elementary reaction of molecularity 3 or greater is unknown.
