Answer: elements of group 1 have an electronic configuration in which it's atom has one extra electron in its valence shell than the no. of electrons required to complete the octet whereas On the other hand the halogen atoms have one less electron valence shell than the required number to achieve the stable electronic configuration of a noble gas ( to complete the octet) and therefore it has a valency of 1 as it requires another electron
