Answer: elements in the same group have same valency. means group 1 elements will have valency 1 or group 2 elements will have valency 2 .

therefore , elements in group 1 will give 1 electron (+1) and will form ion . as it is easier to give 1 than to take 7 (-7) [ as to make outershell complete]
