Elijah rolls a ball with a mass of 5.0 kg that accelerates 8.0 m/s2 when an unknown force is applied to it. What is the amount of the force?

Given :

Net Mass = 5 kg

Net Acceleration = 8 m/s²

Assumptions :

Frictional force is negligible.

We know that :

F_{net}  = m_{net} * a_{net}

Substituting the values.

We get,

F = (5)(8) = 40 N

Hence 40 N force is applied on the ball.
