\left {{3x+y=5} \atop {x+y=3}} \right.

multiply second equation by -1

-x-y=-3\\

3x+y-5=0

-x-y+3=0

equate both

3x+y-5=-x-y+3

y gets cancelled out

3x-5=-x+3

3x+x=3+5

4x=8

x=2

as x+y=3

put value of x in eq.

2+y=3

y=3-2

y=1
