and,

4x - 3y = 26 -------------(2)

On multiplying equation (1) by 3 we get,

3x + 3y =9 -----------(3)

Now, Adding equation (2) and (3) we get,

=> 7x = 35
=> x = 35/7
=> x = 5

From equation (1) we have,

=> x + y = 3
=> 5 + y = 3
=> y = 3 - 5
=> y = -2

Hence, x = 5 and y = -2
