Multiply equation 1 by 3

3x + 3y = 12 .................( 3 )

equation 3 + equation 2

3x + 3y = 12

6x --3y  =9​

=9x = 21

thus, x = 21/9 = 7/3

substitute value of x in equation 1

7/3 + y = 4

y = 4 - 7/3

thus, y= 5/3
