Answer:

We produce millions of tons of single use plastic every year, most of which cannot be recycled. Single use plastic includes plastic bags, polythene, straws, plastic glass, soda and water bottles and food packaging items etc. These single use plastics are used only once and then thrown away as a garbage for recycle.

Most of the single use plastic items which are thrown away after using only once, are not recycled. They are also non biodegradable and usually goes into a landfill where it is buried or it gets into the water and after some time by various means it goes into the ocean. They enter into soil and water bodies and break down into small particles, however, they do not decompose. They remain in the soil and water for more than hundred years and release toxic chemicals and thus damaging our beautiful planet and environment.  The plastic bags that enter the water bodies are a major cause of the water pollution. This is deteriorating our environment and ecology in every possible way.

Single use plastic is very harmful for human beings, animals, marine creatures and hydrophytes. In the water bodies, aquatic animals mistakenly consume plastic particles along with their food. Many marine animals including fishes, sea birds, turtles are found to have plastics in their stomach. These plastics, pierce the organ of animals and block the digestive systems resulting in serious health problems and causing death.

The production of single use plastic bags and other plastic items releases toxic chemicals that can cause serious disease among those involved in the production of it. Like water pollution, single use plastic is also one of the major causes of environmental pollution. Smoke released from burning of single use plastic increase the risk of heart disease and aggravates respiratory ailments such as asthma and emphysema. This also causes rashes, nausea or headaches, and damages the nervous systems.
