Majoritarianism is a belief that the majority community should be able to rule it's country to it's own will but this regarding the needs and wishes of the minority.

•Following this principle, the Sinhalese community after winning elections and capturing power declared Sinhala as the official language in the year 1956.

• Policies were framed for giving preference to Sinhala government and university jobs.

•These elections worsened the relationship between the Sinhalese and the tamils. As a result the Tamils started a struggle for the recognition of Tamil as an official language, resulted in civil war.

• It has caused a great setback to social political and economic life.

I HOPE YOU FIND IT HELPFUL.
