Digestion Of Proteins:

● In Stomach:

》One of the gland of stomach called peptic or chief cells secretes the proenzyme pepsinogen.

》The proenzyme pepsinogen gets converted into pepsin which turns into the activated form on exposure to HCl released by the parietal or oxyntic cells.

》Pepsin then converts proteins into proteoses and peptones.

● In Small Intestine-

》The pancreatic juice secteted here contains trypsinogen, chymotrypsinogen, procarboxypeptidases, amylases, lipases and nucleases.

》Enterokinase activates trypsin which in turn activates other enzymes.

》The proteins, proteoses, peptones which were partially hydrolysed in stomach reaches the intestine.

》Trypsin, Chemotrypsin, Carboxypeptidase acts upon them and converts into dipeptides.

》Dipeptides are then broked into amino acids by dipeptidases present in the intestinal juice.

Protein digestion. Protein digestion occurs in the stomach and duodenum in which 3 main enzymes, pepsin secreted by the stomach and trypsin and chymotrypsin secreted by the pancreas, break down food proteins into polypeptides that are then broken down by various exopeptidases and dipeptidases into amino acids.
