The poem Childhood by Markus Natten is about the transformation leading to disillusionment in each and every person's life. As one grows up, one starts seeing the harsh realities of life, which one was not aware of during the childhood.

The poet also felt the same. After he grew up, he realized his pleasant childhood was gone. He tried to analyze when he lost it. He made certain conjectures. He guessed he might have lost his childhood when he turned twelve; or when he could not find heaven and hell in geography book; or when he realized adults were hypocrites; or when he came to know he could think unique thoughts with his mind.

However, he was not sure when exactly he lost it. Nonetheless, he was sure his childhood was associated with his early days of life, before he attained the age of twelve.
