Astronomy is the branch of science that deals with the study of celestial objects.Astronomy is a participatory science. it is all around us.
Astronomical methods are the techniques or the methods used to study, observe and predict the nature of celestial objects.
Observational astronomy is the branch of astronomy that deals with observation of celestial bodies with the help of telescope and other astronomical apparatus.
The different astronomical methods are:
1. Optical Astronomy
2. Radio Astronomy
3. IRAS[Infrared Astronomy satellite]
4.Gravitational wave Astronomy.
Optical Astronomy:
By using Astronomical Telescope , the nature of celestial objects were seen and recorded on photographic film.
For example :Hubble Space Telescope named in honour of Astronomer Edwin Hubble, whose observation helped to understand, broaden the views of universe.
Radio Astronomy: collects the radiation emitted from space for further investigations.
IRAS: to record observations and study the radiation emitted from cosmic objects in region of spectrum.
Gravitational Wave astronomy: Collects observational data about distant massive object by employing gravitational wave detector.
LIGO: Laser Interferometer Gravitational wave observation , on14 September 2015, observed binary black hole.
observatories in space may be in the form of orbiting satellite like unnamed orbiting solar observatories or an observatory can be stationed on moon or any other planet having suitable temperature and condition.
Apollo Mission in 1970's explored the lunar rocks and soil samples and collected the photographs.
Space Craft called Probes access across solar system to know more about neighboring planets . It also, operated successfully on surface of Mars and Venus.
