Solution of simultaneous linear equations 2x + y = 8; y = 1+x/2 is (2.8,2.4)

Graph is attached.

Given:

  • A pair of linear equation in two variables.
  • 2x+y=8 and y = 1+x/2

To find:

  • Solve graphically.

Solution:

Step 1:

Write atleast 2-3 points of 2x+y= 8.

y =  - 2x + 8 \\

Put different values of x and find y.

x_y

4_0

2_4

0_8

Thus,

points are (4,0), (2,4) and (0,8)

Step 2:

Write atleast 2-3 points of y= 1+x/2

Put different values of x and find y.

x_y

0_1

2_2

4_3

Thus,

points are (0,1), (2,2) and (4,3).

Step 3:

Plot these points on the graph and draw two lines.

The point of intersection of these lines is the solution of linear equations.

Graph is attached.

Thus,

x= 2.8 and y= 2.4 is the solution.
