Dear ABC,

Thanks for your refreshing letter last month. I had such a fun time going through it. You seem to be having a great time with your family. As you had enquired, I would like to throw light on how the Republic Day is celebrated in India.

Republic Day, held every year on the 26th of January, symbolizes the true spirit of the Indian independence. It is a red-letter day in Indian history. It was on this day in 1930 that Purna Swaraj (Declaration of Independence) was officially announced with a nationwide revolt for the freedom of the country. 20 years down the line, the Constitution of India came into effect on 26th January, 1950 making India an independent republic with the power to curve its own destiny.

Because of the significance attached with the day, it is celebrated with tremendous enthusiasm and pride throughout the nation. The national capital, New Delhi leads the way with a grand ceremony organized at Janapath. The President, along with other dignified invitees (both national and international) grace the occasion with their presence. The President hosts the national flag form the podium marking the beginning of the function. The 21 gun salute to the President is another trademark event of the ceremony. It is generally followed by parade by the defense personnel. The military might of the country is at full display with tanks, guns and fighter planes adding to the grandeur.

Moreover, indigenous cultural shows put up by the various states light up the occasion, underlying the beauty and strength of the diversity of the nation. The sacrifices of the brave soldiers are honored in the form of Gallantry awards given to respective family members. The patriotic music makes the environment fill with passion and pride while the sight of the passionate people cheering, is something that stays in the memory for a long time.

I hope I was able to depict a reasonable picture of the Republic Day celebration. I have nothing more to add today. Convey my respect to your parents. As always, I would love to hear more from you.

Yours truly
