Heyya!
Sociology in India has grown significantly. The most important issue in Indian sociology has been the caste system. One of the foremost sociologists in India has been M.N. Srinivas. He is most well known for his work on the evolution of the caste system and the notion of Sanskritisation. This is the process through which lower castes seek to improve their social position by acquiring the living styles of brahmins. In recent times, India sociology has also studied the issues of religiona and secularism, the position of women, poverty and inequality. The most well know sociologist in India today is Andre Beteille.
