Answer:

Emf of battery = 96 V

Explanation:

6Ω || 3Ω || 2Ω

Equivalent resistance of parallel combination is

\frac{1}{R_{P} } = \frac{1}{6} + \frac{1}{3} + \frac{1}{2} =\frac{(1 +2+3)}{6} = 1 Ω

Rp = 1 Ω

4Ω series Rp series 2.5Ω series 0.5 Ω

Equivalent resistance of combination is

Req = 4 + 1 + 2.5 + 0.5 = 8Ω

p.d across 6 Ω resistance = I₆R₆ = 2 x 6 = 12 V

∴ p.d across Rp is 12 V

Current in the circuit I = current through Rp

                     Main current I = V/Rp = 12/1 = 12 A

Emf of battery = I x Req = 12 x 8 = 96 V
