The Case of Pachkiya Island
"Captain, are you there?" spoke a trembling voice on the other side of the telephone.
At that time, Mukesh was shaving. He said, "Yes, what is the matter?" putting the razor down on the table.
"Come to the port immediately, sir."
"Okay," said Mukesh, senior officer of Kolkata Police, as he understood that his presence was being highly sorted on a serious matter, going on at the port.
He reached there within an hour and met his assistant Pankaj. Pankaj Basu. He joined Kolkata Police as a trainee under Mukesh Poddar, the most successful officer Kolkata Police ever had.
"Sir, the matter is very serious. A boat was hijacked by a group of goons. Probably some plunderers. There were some civilians in the boat. Two of them are from high society." Pankaj knew well that his senior loved to hear the clear description in a minute.
"Ah! Whose boat is that?" said Mukesh, indicating towards a lone boat in water.
There were no sailor or fishermen around, since the whole port was blocked by the police. The night saw some storms and heavy downpour. Water was still high in the sea. Port was itself muddy.
"That's? That's ours, sir," Pankaj had to say it in an excusing way because the six letters "P O L I C E" were not written on that.
"Let's go then."
Pankaj immediately brought three constables of high caliber and the five started the engine of the lone boat.
"What time was it when this happened?"
"Well, sir, it was around seven thirty."
"Did we receive any calls from them demanding money or seeking help?"
"No, sir."
"Umm!" This tone was well-known to Pankaj. There were certainly something doubtful in this matter.
"Pankaj, call in more staffs to the port including a medical team. We are going to face something terrible for sure."
"Okay, sir," said Pankaj, as he began to open his mobile.
After two hours, they reached Pachkiya Island, where a boat, which was captured by those goons, could be seen.
It was mysterious for the five policemen. There were no one guarding the boat. "No man's land!" remarked Pankaj in a low voice.
Now they were a little deep into the island and what they came across, probably stunned them in fear and wonder.
Ten dead bodies. Burned. "Thunderbolt," said Mukesh Poddar gently, "just as I feared."
Within three hours, a team of police and medical staffs reached the island. They examined the place and it was clear that the nature did not overlook the goons and the rich.
The medical team left first and the last boat sailed off the island with all the ten dead bodies and the investigating team.
