Endoplasmic reticulum is named by porter.  it consist of an irregular network of channels which are bounded by membrane and are inter-connected  with each other. it serves as a pathway for the distribution of materials from one part of the cell to the another. it provides a large surface area for life functions to take place.

Endoplasmic reticulum is  a network of membranous tubules within the cytoplasm of a eukaryotic cell, continuous with the nuclear membrane. It usually has ribosomes attached and is involved in protein and lipid synthesis.
