Energy exists in many different forms. One form of energy can be
changed into another form. At a hydroelectric power house, a dam is built
on a river. The water collects behind the dam to form a reservoir. Water
stored behind the dam has a lot of potential energy but as such this
potential energy is of no use to us. If however, the water is allowed to fall
from its great height, the potential energy of water changes into kinetic
energy. This kinetic energy of the falling water is used to derive turbines
which are connected to electricity generators for producing electricity.
Answer the following questions based on above paragraph-
What kind of energy transformation takes place at a hydroelectric power
station?
Name the instrument which transforms electrical energy into mechanical
energy
