Think Deep and invent a technology to address a persisting real world problem, come up with some innovative solutions, make ways for better life. Do not let go of ideas, implement them no matter how small it is you think, just do it, that's what matters. Like Dr.Harish Hande who founded SELCO India which has installed solar light systems in 125,000 houses and plans to aims to reach over 200,000 households by 2014.

Educate India - Teach the poor freely Pass the skills you have nourished for the 4 years of engineering by teaching the up coming generation. This could actually be done in many ways. You can start an NGO which organizes teaching camps for children who could not afford proper education throughout India. Or you can Join in any of the NGOs which are truly serving the Nation like Teach For India. These are just examples, you do can have a whole new way.
Think Big, be an Entrepreneur. Create a company or an Industry or a Brand to provide employment to people. India has an unrivalled youth demographic, 65% of its population is 35 or under, and half the country's population of 1.25 billion people is under 25 years of age. Research suggests India needs 12 million new jobs every year to absorb the largest youth bulge the world has ever seen. It has fallen far behind that target. There would be huge need for employment in the country.
Movies. Be a film maker, if you are really interested, why not this way? . Be part of a crew to make some cutting edge techie films, Anime, TV Series,.. let it be a movie to showcase a particular society and their domain of life, perspectives to change people, it be a message oriented, it be a documentary what not in movie making, You'll always have things to do and contribute for technological advancements to be used in Movie making if you are a technocrat, especially for in like Indian Film Industry. And movies do have impact on society and this surely is one of the many ways to serve a nation if you do it in right way - Film is incredibly democratic and accessible, it's probably the best option if you actually want to change the world, not just re-decorate it.
