the line is... due to be crowned again

EXPLANATION

In these lines the poet compares the snake to a king that is ..he was the king of the underworld until humans took away his crown i.e took his place.

he believes him to be one of the Lords of life and is ashamed of throwing a log at him.he believes his act to be a vulgar act and a petty act and now is regretting about it..

The poet feels that once again the snake was due to be crowned as a king. He felt that he missed the opportunity of being with the lord of life. He addresses the snake as lord of life as he lived in the depth of the earth which was the source of all living things. The poet wanted to make amends and correct his mistake as he was feeling small in front of the great snake.
