In English grammar, a syllable means the sound of vowel that we hear, when we pronounce a word.

Bake -  we pronounce like  -  bay + k.    there is one vowel sound in the word. So there is one syllable.

Some words have two or more vowels in sequence.  There also it could be one syllable.  The consonant 'y' is considered as a vowel, for the purpose of syllables.  For example ,  cry - has one syllable.  hungry has two  hun + gry.

Ex of syllabels are Beautiful,merciful,pleasant...... we can identity syllabels by spellings it how means beauti ful we will break the sentence but if v take the word long then we r not breaking the word those words r not called as syllabels
