Answer:

English is proper noun.

Explanation:

Let's first know about Proper and Common nouns.

Proper Noun

Proper nouns are a type of noun that indicates towards a particular person, place, animal or thing. It specifies a particular noun.

Example :- The Taj Mahal, Amitabh Bachchan, Akbar etc

Here, Taj Mahal is a particular monument, Amitabh Bachchan is a name of a specific human and by Akbar, we specify the mughal emperor Akbar only.

Common Noun

They indicate towards a whole community and not to a particular person.

For instance :- The Monument, Humans, Emperor

Now, "The Monument" doesn't tell you hat monument we are talking about. "Humans" doesn't give you idea about a particular person. By "Emperor", one may think about Ashoka, Chandragupta or Akbar but it's not specifically said which emperor.

Now, English is a particular language. So, it comes under Proper Noun.

NOTE : When it says "An English", then it becomes a common noun, as "An English" means a person who is from England, but doesn't tell us specifically about the person. Again, when it says "The English" then it becomes proper noun because it specifies the people of England among a group of people belonging to different region.
