In a sentence, verbs are the action words that explain what the subject is doing. Verbs, like nouns, are the most important portion of a sentence or phrase because they tell a storey about what is happening.
As you can see from the examples above, the placement of a verb in relation to the subject is one hint to help you distinguish it. After a noun or pronoun, verbs are nearly usually used. The subject is made up of these nouns and pronouns. Because the word thought comes after the noun Jack, the action taken by Jack (subject) was thinking (verb).
