- SWAMI VIVEKANANDA was a Hindu spiritual leader and a monk in India. He was also a great philosopher and had a very devout personality.
- He was born on 12th Jan 1863 in the state of Kolkata. His original name was Narendranath Dutta.
- Naren studied in an institution at Calcutta. He joined the general assembly institution founded by the Scottish general missionary board in Calcutta. After passing his B.A. examination he went to study law. His father's death didn't make him continue his further study.
- His most well-known philosophical works are “Modern Vedanta” and “Raj Yoga”.
- He became the most important disciple of Ramkrishna Paramhansa and was highly regarded by his gurus.
- He believed that there shouldn't be any conflict between preachers of different religions, because there is only God.

An Overview
Swami Vivekananda was a famous Hindu monk of the nineteenth century. He was the disciple of one of the greatest saints of all time, Ramakrishna.
Born as Narendra Nath Datta to a good Bengali family, Swami Vivekananda had spiritual interests from the very beginning itself. Though he had a restless personality within him, he used to meditate a lot in front of Hindu gods.
Later on, moving through a great number of hardships, he accepted Ramakrishna as his guru and found the Ramakrishna Math is the later years.
From then on, Swami Vivekananda began to travel all over India as well as abroad preaching philosophies as well as spiritual things that he considered as important. His teachings and sayings gathered him immense no. of followers from all over the world.
Swamiji did his daily teachings, practiced yoga and continued to live normally by doing his karma till the time of his death. On 4 July, 1902, he attained mahasamadhi.
