The following are examples of Exosmosis and Endosmosis happening in our daily life:

Osmosis is defined as a process in which water moves in or out of cell depending on concentration gradient. When the movement of water is from out of cells the process is called exosmosis and when the movement of water is into cell it is called endosmosis.

Example:

  1. When fresh fruits are kept in sun they lose their moisture content in which water moves out of their cells and them either, this is an example of exosmosis.
  2. The movement of water in plants from their root hairs to cortex cells of the plants is an example of exosmosis.
  3. When there is swelling in gums the patients are advised to rinse salt in their gums. The swelling is caused due to excess of water in gums and salt takes the excess water out, this also is an example of exosmosis.
  4. When raisins or dried peas are soaked in water they swell because the water moves inside these cells this is an example of endosmosis.
  5. The transfer of water in plants from the soil to the xylem vessels is an example of endosmosis became water moves into the xylem cells.
