⇒ The Godavari is the largest Peninsular river. It rises from the slopes of western Ghats in the Nasik district of Maharashtra.

⇒ It drain into Bay of Bengal. It drainage basin is also largest among the peninsula rivers.

⇒ The Godavari is joined by a number of tributaries such as the Purna, the Wardha, the Penganga, the Manjra, the Wainganga and the Pranhita.

⇒ The area covered by the tributaries is very large in some area so it is also known as the 'Dakshin Ganga'.
