The national standard list of reasons for exclusion include:-
A physical assault against a pupil, Physical assault against an adult, verbal abuse or threatening behaviour against a pupil, verbal abuse or threatening behaviour against an adult, Bullying, Racist abuse, Sexual misconduct, Drug and alcohol-related, Damage to school or personal property, theft, and persistent disruptive behaviour.
New approaches should be adopted to tackle truancy and school exclusion. Changes like reducing unjustified exclusions, making sure that pupils who are excluded get a full-time education, and providing more resources to support schools tackling truancy and exclusions should be made. Self-esteem of excluded students should be raised along with confidence and prevent further social exclusion through personal counselling.
