Functions of endoplasmic reticulum in a cell:-

  1. It has a two main divisions viz., SER and RER. RER helps in protein manufacturing and SER helps in lipids manufacturing.
  2. It helps in membrane biogenesis.
  3. Those lipids and proteins are also used for making many enzymes and hormones.
  4. It is linked with the formation of lysosomes.
  5. SER in vertebrates detoxify many toxins.
  6. It forms a cytoplasmic framework.
