The three reasons for recombination during sexual reproduction are:

  1. Crossing over during gametogenesis: Gametes are formed through meiosis. During the prophase of meiosis, crossing over takes place in which homologous chromosomes exchange a few segments of their genes.
  2. Random distribution of chromosomes during telophase II of gametogenesis: During the formation of a tetrad of cells, the chromosomes get randomly distributed among the daughter nuclei. thus they have a different set of genes.
  3. Fusion of gametes belonging to two different individuals: During fertilization, the male and the female gamete fuse. Since both the gametes belong to two different individuals, they carry a different set of genes.
