When a beam of light passes through a glass prism, the following observations occur:

  • After the passing of light through a glass prism, it bends.
  • The light gets separated into its components colors i.e. red, green, blue, orange, yellow and violet.
  • This phenomenon is known as the dispersion of light.
  • Red light deviates the least on passing through the prism as it has the largest wavelength.
  • On the other hand, violet light deviates the most upon passing through the prism as it has the shortest wavelength.
