Matter can change from one state to another. This happens when matter is heated and the energy within the matter increases.
The increase in energy causes the particles in matter to vibrate very rapidly and thus the structure gets broken down.
The kinetic energy that the particles gain causes strong vibrations that are responsible for the breaking away of the particles from the structure.
As the heat energy rises, the compound initially increases in temperature, however, when the temperature reaches a critical point, the heat energy is used to break the inter-molecular attractive forces. Once these forces are overcome, the matter reorganizes and changes shape.
