In order to understand and distinguish one must be aware of what informational institutions actually are.

Basically, they are organizations (or sub-units of organizations) which are charged with providing resources and services to for educational purposes. They meet the educational, informational, cultural and/or recreational needs of their audience or clients.

Some information institutions are like public libraries, school libraries, national archives, or art museums. Each has their own role, function and aim.

They all hire professionals and help in educating.

Examples are as following;

Library:

It is a systematic organization and classification of resources.

Their organization allows for their effective retrieval, use and/or enjoyment.

There are available provisions of appropriate access to the collections by the primary clientele and other designated users, like borrowing through use of library card.

musuem:

It mostly targets the collection development which consists of selecting, acquiring, preserving. and in some cases, weeding the collections.

They keep the collections preserved, and supply to clientele on for the sake of observation rather than borrowing.
